Watch
by G. L. Penney The county now seems to be proceeding with plans to modify the county office building even though the legislature has yet to adopt any specific plan. At the last work session, we approved the expenditure of $5,000 for an engineering study of the area below the stage in the Hubbard auditorium. I should have known better. A building designed to hold hundreds of active children out to be able to accommodate any normal use. The only heavier use that I can think of has in fact begun, namely, the storage of old paper records. This is happening at a time when the state government is proceeding with plans to store all records electronically. My concern is that the county building will end up full of trash. I remember when the county spent $126,000 to have someone take such a building off our hands so that we could build a new one. Even now, the first thing one sees upon entering the county building is a stairwell barricaded with plastic. Some time ago I had remarked to the chairman of the legislature that this ought to have been corrected. I was told that we needed a building plan. So, I typed up a preliminary plan and gave it to the chairman expecting him to schedule a discussion. He has not done so.
