Two members of the Susquehanna Toastmasters Club in Owego will be competing against winners from other local clubs in the Southern Tier after winning the Susquehanna Toastmasters Club's International Speech and Table Topics contests. "Table Topics" is an exercise in impromptu speaking. Kathleen Pernice, Owego, current vice president of the Owego Business and Professional Women's Club and a financial consultant, won the International Speech contest. Her speech was in honor of National Heart Month with a talk on the extreme risk of heart disease and simple ways to prevent it. Thomas Cassetta of Elmira an engineer at Corning Glass was the first place winner in the Table Topics Contest with second place going to Cesar Albuja of Owego. The winners will be competing in the Area 15 contests on March 30 at Greater Valley EMS in Sayre, Penna. Toastmasters International is an international organization dedicated to helping people improve their communication and leadership skills. Susquehanna Toastmasters Club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at the Tioga County Office Building in Owego. Guests are always welcome. For more information about the club contact
