Groundbreaking
Ceremonies Held for Gymnastics Center
A Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on December 15, 2006, for the Owego Gymnastics and Activity Center's new state-of-the-art facility on Route 38, just north of the new Owego-Apalachin School District bus garage. After enduring countless floods, the Owego Gymnastics and Activity Center (formerly The Owego Scamps Gymnastics Club) announced the construction of the new facility. The center, which was located in the basement of the Tioga County office building in Owego, sustained extensive damage in the April 1-3, 2005, including the loss of more than $70,000 worth of equipment. In the flood of June 2006, the center did not lose any equipment, but it suffered the loss of revenue and permanent displacement from the Tioga County Office Building which sustained water three and a half feet onto the 1st floor of the building. The county decided that the basement was so damaged that it will be closed for the foreseeable future. Therefore, beginning June 27, 2006, the center was unable to operate from the building, essentially closing their business. The Owego-Apalachin School District came to the center's rescue and generously offered the vacant Old Owego Middle school as a temporary home while the center constructs their new facility out of the flood zone on Route 38 in Owego. The center is up and running and new students are always welcome. If you would like to help The Owego Gymnastics
and Activity Center, donations can be sent to Owego Gymnastics and
Activity Center, 56 Main Street, Owego NY, 13827.
