Candor Historical Society's Gift-Giving
Event
The Candor Historical Society's Favorite Recipes from the Past
is available just in time for Christmas. This long-awaited for cookbook
is simmering with great recipes that have been handed down from some of
the earliest settlers of Candor.
As well as the delicious recipes that have been handed down from one generation to another, the cookbook is a treasure-trove of exquisite artwork lovingly handcrafted by Joanne Goulart Weber. For years, she was the art teacher at Candor Central School, and many of her paintings can be seen throughout the community. Now, her creativity graces every single page of this historic cookbook, some depicting historic locations in the area, which is sure to become a collector's piece for the artwork alone. Over 200 recipes are included in the cookbook, a cookbook that has taken a lot of time, patience and love to create. The Candor Historical Society is deeply grateful and appreciative of the "labor of love" that has gone into the creation of the cookbook and expresses thanks to each one that has been involved in its creation. The cookbook committee included Irene Cortright, Barbara Evans (deceased), Geraldine Starkweather, Joanne Weber, and copyeditor Carol Henry. For those who wish to purchase a signed copy of this unique cookbook ($18, includes tax), the Candor Historical Society will set up shop on December 10, from 12:00 Noon to 6:00 pm., at the Candor Town Hall, to coincide with the Candor Chamber of Commerce's Holiday Tour of Homes. Also available, and new this year, are a limited supply of unique tiles depicting the four village churches, which can either be bought as a set of the four churches ($50/set; or $15 individually-includes tax). Because the Ithaca - Owego Railroad was so significant to the Candor area, and there is a lot of interest in it (it later became the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western), the Historical Society has prepared a tile of the Candor Depot complete with a train waiting in the background. Depending on the sale of these tiles, the historical society is considering adding additional tiles of the other churches, and historic sites within the town. Remember, these will make great gifts for the holiday and are
a great reminder of Candor's history. The society will also have crocks,
afghans, "I Remember When, Vol.1" and "The Village of Candor" autographed
books, as well as other items for sale on December 10, from 12:00 to 6:00
pm at the Candor Town Hall.
