Area Agencies Receive Funding
The directors of Tioga County Senior Citizens Foundation have
announced that funds totaling $69,202 have been awarded to area agencies
for 2006. The foundation's mission is to assist organizations that
serve the needs and interests of senior citizens throughout Tioga County.
Organizations receiving funding this year were:
Tioga County libraries, $1,000 each
Senior citizen clubs, $800 each
Allied Christians of Tioga, for A.C.T. dinners , $800
Alzheimer's Association, services in Tioga County , $10,000
Arthritis Foundation, selected books for county libraries, $500
Bread of Life Food Pantry in Willseyville, refrigerator,
$1,000
Candor Emergency Squad, wellness/exercise classes, $1,000
Clay People at Community Center, ceramics supplies/instruction,
$600
Community Care Network of Nichols, newsletter and ins. To cover
volunteers, $4,550
Legal Counsel for Older Tiogans, workshops on critical legal/health
documents, $600
Long Meadow Apartments, transport carts to be placed in halls,
$647
Lounsberry UMC Food Pantry, freezer, $700
Newark Valley Historical Society, chairs and tables for
Depot, $1,605
Open Door Mission, services in partnership with TC Rural Ministry,
$2,000
Tioga Co. Boys & Girls Club, renovations to exercise
facility, 1,000
Tioga Co. Council on the Arts, programming and newsletter, $4,000
Tioga Co. Rural Ministry, services in partnership with Open Door,
$5,000
Tioga Co. Tourism, Tioga Journeys reduced rate/offset cost guides
and bus, $1,000
Tioga Opportunities Aging Services, programs, mileage for
meal delivery, emergency response alerts, $8,000
Community Services, for county food pantries and soup kitchens,
$6,000
Housing Services, furniture in public rooms at Long Meadow &
Springview, $5,000
Since it was formed in 1982, after the closure of the Owego Home
for Aged Women, Senior Citizens Foundation has awarded over 1.24 million
dollars for the benefit of Tioga County's senior citizens. Fifteen
men and women from across Tioga County serve as volunteer board members
to oversee the business of the non-profit charitable foundation. Please
remember Tioga County Senior Citizens Foundation at tax time or in your
will. TCSCF seeks and gratefully accepts tax-exempt contributions or bequests
to further its work.
Non-profit organizations which serve seniors may receive an application
to request funding for 2007 by writing to TCSCF, PO Box 117, Owego,
NY 13827, or calling 607-687-0229. Completed applications must be received
by June 1, 2007.
