Tri-Cities Opera Support School Districts Affected by Recent Flood

Tri-Cities Opera (TCO) has been awarded a grant of $50,000 from The New York State Music Fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. The grant is earmarked for TCO's touring production of The Toy Shop, a one act opera for children written by Seymour Barab.

"This grant couldn't come at a better time," said TCO Executive Director, Reed Smith. "It will allow us to bring our educational production free of charge to school districts experiencing financial difficulties due to recent flooding".

While the grant does not specifically require TCO to perform for flood ravaged school districts Mr. Smith stated, "It is the obvious choice, under the current circumstances, to target the school districts that are facing such huge unexpected flood-related expenses."

The New York State Music Fund is a grant program of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. The purpose of the Music Fund is to increase access to and appreciation of music of our time by audiences throughout New York State. In addition to the creation and performances of new musical works, the Music Fund supports school and community-based educational programs, and recording and media dissemination projects that expand New York residents' access to music.

Tri-Cities Opera was founded in 1949 and enjoys an exceptional reputation in the opera world for its resident artist-training program, sets, costumes and opera productions. Each year Tri-Cities Opera present three opera productions at The Forum Theatre, 236 Washington Street, Binghamton, NY.
