Letter to the Editor
Davis' Widow "Get's Going" in Town Race

It has been just over three months since my husband, Don, passed away unexpectedly. His death shocked the whole community and in many people's thoughts are of how much he did for the community. I, too, have been reminiscing the past 46 years we had together. I have been truly blessed by being part of his life.

Don owned a tavern in the 60s.  Remember Don Davis tavern and three dozen clams for 99 cents?  Later he opened the business in Apalachin and  then in Owego..

He had entered politics like a whirlwind, whatever Don did was never halfway, it had to be done the right way! He was elected overwhelmingly both times he ran for the town board. The people knew he would not just talk, he would get it done!

His motto was "I am not a politician, but I have the common sense the good lord gave me!"

The town board unanimously appointed me to his seat in June. Since then I am on planning and zoning, water and sewer and highway committees. With the June flood being my "baptism under fire" I am working on a plan for a neighborhood volunteer group to help in any future emergencies.  As chairman of a newly appointed committee, we are working with FEMA on looking into town flooding issues and further mitigations that will help the people of the town of Owego.

I decided to run in this fall's election, on November 7 on the Republican ticket so I may carry on Don's agenda.  A few of those were to bring new business to the town to give us a better tax base. He worked diligently to clean up any eyesores in the town to make it more attractive to new people, so they would want to move into the town of Owego, I intend to carry these on.

I always stayed in the background, but now its time for me to step forward and carry on for him.  Sometimes I hear someone up there saying "go for it girl!" that is just what I intend to do!

I've had many people ask how am I doing? Well, as you can see I've been busy the last few months, and with help from so many, I'm doing fine. I miss him dearly after 46 years of being a team, but I often hear him saying "let's get going!" and that's what I'm doing!

                                     Sincerely,
                                    Lynne Davis
