My Husband, Don Davis
Lynne L. Davis

Don was a man who crammed a lot of living in 66 years. More than most of us will in a longer time frame. He loved helping people and meeting new faces.
There were many facets to him, and I believe one of the most important to him were the children he worked closely with the Apalachin Elementary School for many years.

He set up a field trip every year for the kindergarten class to walk to his store, where they had hot dogs, soda and chips.

Open House you would always see him cooking and serving hot dogs.

He arranged to have hockey players from the Binghamton Senators at the store for one class, and also at the school.

He would allow the school to barbecue chickens at the store to raise money.
First day of school you would see him there watching the new ones get off the buses.

I could go on and on. He never wanted recognition for all the things he did.
The elementary school really got him one year. He was asked to be Grand Marshall of the Halloween parade. He found a tuxedo and top hat and marched through the halls to gather all the classes to follow him into the auditorium. He proceeded with them up the stairs to the state and got midway. There he was met by Mr. Motsko, the principal. Unbeknown to him, the school had decided to declare that week "Don Davis Week." Mr. Motsko proceeded to read the proclamation. As I watched Don I could tell he was ready to break down. This meant more to him than any other awards given him!

I am so proud of all he did with his life. We all were truly blessed to know him.
