Boys & Girls Club Awards

Last month, the Tioga County Boys & Girls Club held their Annual End of the Program Year Celebration & Ice Cream Social. This annual event is held to celebrate and recognize both individuals and teams for their accomplishments during the Program Year. Awards were given from the Athletic Department in golf, lacrosse, indoor soccer and basketball. From the Social Recreation Department awards were presented from the following programs: SMART Girls, Passport to Manhood, Arts & Crafts, Game Room, and the Cooper Technology & Education Center.

Special Awards were presented as follows: The Alan C. Reppert Sportsmanship Award recipient was Olivia Bishop, and The Board President's Special Merit Award for Volunteering went to Roland Brown.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2006 Youth of the Year Award. This award is based on the candidate's outstanding and continuous service at home, in school, at church in the community and at the Boys & Girls Club. The Youth of the Year is the highest honor the Club can bestow upon a member.

This year the award was presented to two Owego Free Academy  Seniors, Michael Fowler and Leah French.  Michael plans to attend Cornell University and study Industrial Labor Relations in the fall. Leah will be attending Houghton College majoring in Psychology and planning a career as an H/S Guidance Counselor.
