The Growing Years Children's Center - A Ribbon Cutting
Ceremony took place on April 26 at The Growing Years Children's Center,
530 Fifth Avenue in Owego.
In response to an identified need in the community for infant
care, Growing Years Children's Center (GYCC) recently opened a facility
that would allow them to expand upon their existing toddler, pre-school,
and after school programs. The renovated Fifth Avenue site offers
ample parking, office space, and is very convenient to area employers.
The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation of Owego, NY assisted
with getting this project off the ground with the award of a matching grant
in the amount of $37,500 to GYCC. In addition to the space the infants
and toddlers occupy, a 4,500 square foot addition to the building is planned
and will allow for the pre-school program and additional infant rooms to
be added by fall 2006. The phase-two building project will include construction
of a complete kitchen, indoor gymnasium, classrooms, and outdoor handicap
accessible playground.
Once complete, Franziska Racker Centers, which operates an inclusive
preschool program that serves both typical children and children with special
needs in an integrated classroom setting, will be partnering with GYCC
for classroom space and providing a full-time nurse on-site.
A Grand Opening Ceremony to celebrate the completion of the entire
facility will be held in the fall.
