Portmeirion Potteries Designer to Visit Owego

Artist Anwyl Cooper-Wills (pictured above), daughter of the founder of Portmeirion, is doing five signings this year in the United States and one of them is here in Owego at The Goat Boy on Front Street. She will be at the Goat Boy on Tuesday, May 9 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Anwyl is the eldest daughter of Susan Williams-Ellis, designer and founder of Portmeirion Potteries, and granddaughter of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, who built the romantic holiday village of Portmeirion in North Wales. The village is famous as the setting for the TV show "The Prisoner."

Anwyl's parents founded Portmeirion pottery in 1960 where her mother, Susan, designed most of Portmeirion's shapes and many of the patterns. Susan's worldwide bestseller "Botanic Garden" is Portmeirion's most renowned pattern.

Anwyl works closely with her mother at the pottery developing Portmeirion product and accessory ranges, as well as overseeing the day-to-day maintenance of existing designs. She designed the original holiday pattern "The Holly and the Ivy" as well as "Botanic Garden Mistletoe." Both have been great successes.
