Reconstruction Project for Exit 64

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has announced a reconstruction project for the reconstruction of the Route 17 Westbound Exit Ramp at Exit 64 in Owego.

Economy Paving Inc. is doing work on the Exit 64 westbound off Ramp in the Village of Owego.  This work will include the closure of the ramp.  Westbound traffic that seeks to exit at Exit 64 will be detoured off at Exit 65 and directed down Route 434 to the Court Street Bridge (State Route 96).
The purpose of the project is to bring this exit ramp, which has a rather sharp curvature, into compliance with interstate standards.  The scope of the work shall include removing some of the hillside to the east of the ramp and placing a decorative lagging wall.  The driving surface itself shall be completely reconstructed with a new alignment.  Lighting and drainage around the ramp shall also be upgraded.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the middle of June - when the ramp shall re-open.

The public is invited to address any further questions or concerns regarding this particular project to the NYSDOT's Engineer-in-Charge of this project:  Dave Talcott.  He can be reached by phone at (607) 687-1573 or Fax at (607) 687-5471.
