Essay Contest's Theme is First Amendment
High School Students Invited to Enter Contest

 The Tioga County Democratic Committee has announced an essay contest for all high school age students. The essay topic will be "The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America."

 The contest is open to high school aged students in Tioga County regardless of creed, color, gender, or political affiliation.

 The winner of the contest will receive a $200 saving bond as well as free admission for themselves and one guest to the committee's Democratic Spring Dinner, the theme of which is ‘Supporting Our Troops, Honoring Our Heroes" to be held May 20, 2006, at Shepard Hills Country Club in Waverly.

 Essays should be between 450 and 550 words. Please include the name of your school with your essay.

 Deadline for the contest is no later than May 1, 2006.

 The First Amendment to the Constitution reads as follows: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
