Ribbon Cutting at 32-34 Lake Street
Built in 1880, the building housed the Owego Post Office until 1920. It also housed the United States Express Office and the Western Union Offices in the late 1880s. After the Post Office moved to its present location, the building became known as the Stebbins and Jones Block, after the two men responsible for the construction of the building. The façade of the building was restored to its original appearance. Original iron columns, hidden for 60 years, were uncovered and restored. Working from period photographs, windows were rebuilt and original façade decoration was restored. Period entry doors were discovered at a renovation firm, and installed in the restored façade. A period paint scheme completed the restoration. The current businesses occupying the Stebbins and Jones Block, all of which endured long months of renovation include: M.A.P.P.S. Inkjet and Toner Cartridge Supply, Dave Jones Design, Four Seasons Fitness Studio, and Coughlin & Gerhart. The current owners of 32-34 Lake Street are Joseph and Cecilia Skovira.
