OA Music Department Presents Anything Goes
The age-old tale of boy-meets-girl and the complications that ensue intrigue every audience, and no musical puts it on stage better than Anything Goes. This musical takes place aboard the USS American which is bound for London. On board is Reno Sweeney who is pursuing Billy Crocker who is in love with Hope who is engaged to an English lord. Songs include It's De-Lovely, Friendship, I Get A Kick Out Of You, All Through The Night, Anything Goes, You're The Top, and Blow, Gabriel, Blow. Anything Goes opened in 1934 and was one of the longest running musicals of the 1930s. In 1936, it was made into a movie starring Bing Crosby and Ethel Merman. In 1987, the musical was revived on Broadway starring Patty LuPone, Howard McGillin and Bill McCutcheon and won three Tony Awards for Revival, Choreography and Featured Actor. The OA cast includes Jessica Brookes as Reno Sweeney, Trevor Larcheveque as Billy Crocker, Kristin Frampton as Hope Harcourt, Tyler Watkins as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, and Vince Skovira as Moonface Martin. Also featured are Jonathan Yard as Elisha Whitney and Elise Morrison as Erma. Cole Porter's uproarious score with its "timeless, classic character," is a perfect vehicle for "the students' high energy singing and dancing talent," according to Director Patricia Bliznik. OA student musicians are known for their jazz bands, and perform "like a 1930s swing band" for this production, according to Daniel Fabricius, OA music director. The show is under the direction of Mrs. Patricia Bliznik and choreographed by Ms. Tracy Bliznik. Musical director is Ms. Kristin Zaryski. The set was designed by Mr. Andrew Kearney and costumes designed by Mrs. Joan Hunt. Mr. Daniel Fabricius will conduct a 22-piece student orchestra. Call 687-6289 to reserve tickets which cost $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will also be available at the door.
