• Romance Book Sale
Month of February
A Romance Book Sale will be held during the month of February.
All romances purchased will be only ten cents each.
• Preschool Story Hour
Thursday Mornings, 10:30-11:15
Preschoolers and an adult are read to and do a craft. No registration,
come any week you are available.
• Tea Parties for Young Ladies
Saturday Mornings, 10-11 am
Tea Parties for Young Ladies will be held again this year on
Saturday mornings during the month of February. We will be making
special crafts, reading books and having "tea" and goodies. Parties
for girls ages 4 to 9 years old will be held February 4, 11, and 18. February
25 will be the day for girls 10 to 12 years old. Please reserve your place
by calling the library at 625-3333.
• Monday Evening Book Club
February 27, 7 pm
New members are welcome! Reserve your copy of the book
at the desk.
• Director Receives Award
Cathy Sorber, the Director of the Apalachin Library received
the Joan Cooke Youth Services Award at the Annual Meeting of the Finger
Lakes Library System in Auburn, NY on October 19, 2005. This award
was given to recognize the programs Cathy has organized for the last several
years at the Apalachin Library. In addition to organizing pre-school story
hours, an elementary read-around, a teen writers club, and a mother-daughter
book club, Cathy created a unique program for special needs children in
the community during the library's annual summer reading program.
• Library Receives Grants
In 2005, the Library received grants from the Mildred Faulkner
Truman Foundation of Owego and the Community Foundation of South Central
New York totaling $4,100 to upgrade the library's heating system and fireproof
the basement furnace room. These renovations completed last year ensure
that the library building meets fire department code.
In October 2005 the Library received a grant of $1,500 from the
Apalachin Lions Club to renovate the meeting room. The funds were used
to purchase new furniture, tables and chairs, paint the walls and refinish
the floors.
