Apalachin Fire Department Honored
at Faith Christian Fellowship Church

After eating a hearty chicken and biscuit dinner, a couple firemen left Faith Christian Fellowship Church fighting back tears.

"We haven't had anyone do something special like this since the 80s," said one choked up fireman, with tears flowing down his cheeks.

Around 50 firefighters from the Apalachin Fire Department and their families ventured out on the snowy evening, Saturday, January 14 to attend the event honoring them and the service they provide to the community. They were ushered into a room filled with red balloons, gold streamers, Dalmatian dog knick-knacks and toy fire trucks. The red and gold theme played out in the table coverings, table settings, and cake.

Assistant Fire Chief Jarvis Henderson and Martie Frye won the two door prizes of baskets filled with goodies. Three-hundred fifty dollars was collected in a homemade fire hydrant and donated to the fire company. Pastor Pete Darling and Fire Chief Tony Quaranta made brief comments.

Ed Thoman and a committee of church members planned the event, advertised, prepared the food, decorated, played music, and served the meal. The church plans to have more community-related events like this in the future. To get involved, contact Faith Christian Fellowship Church at 625-2853. The church is located on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Beach Road in Apalachin.
