Family Receives Vet's WWII Medals
Pfc. Glenn A. Warner, a native of Owego, was killed in action during
World War II, but his family last month received some of the war medals
that he earned. On Saturday, November 12, Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY)
presented the long overdue medals to Warner's sister, V. Elaine Kravec,
during a ceremony to rededicate the Owego VFW Hall in Warner's honor.
The medals included the Good Conduct Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation,
European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory
Medal. Warner served with the 246th Engineer Combat Battalion during World
War II. He was killed in action by enemy artillery fire on February 23,
1945, in Germany. Warner's family previously received his Purple Heart.
Hinchey helped obtain the medal after Kravec approached his office for
assistance.
