Fire Training
On
Saturday, October 22, the Owego Fire Department used an unoccuppied house
that was scheduled to be demolished for fire fighting training. The house,
a small, yellow bungalow, was located across the street from the former
Burger King on 5th Avenue in Owego.
Before setting the structure on fire, the department conducted
rescue exercises by filling the house with smoke and "rescuing" a dummy
which had been previusly placed inside the building.
In the afternoon, the hosue and a detached garage were set ablze
for fire fighting training. The weather cooperated by providing a light
rain and a wind that blew the smoke away from nearby businesses.
