Compost Bins Available Oct 8 Earth Machine Compost Bins will be available for sale from 9:00 am to 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 8, at the Tioga County Office Building at 56 Main Street in Owego. The sale is sponsored by the Master Gardeners at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tioga County. Earth Machine Bins are 80-gallon (ten cubic feet) capacity, self-contained units that help you produce useable compost faster than uncontained piles. They have a 10-year warranty, snap together easily and will protect your compost from animal scavengers. They'll also fit in any car. The bins cost $42 each, which is a good deal considering the retail price is often $80 or more. And you'll get a tip sheet from the Master Gardeners that gives you all the information you need to get the best compost out of your bin and how to use it. Composting is a form of recycling that you can do entirely at home. It's a way to turn your kitchen and yard wastes into a nutrient-rich material that improves your soil's structure, fertility and water retention while providing a foundation for healthy root development in plants. Your purchase will help support the Tioga County Master Gardeners, a group of volunteers who maintain public gardens and assist gardeners in the county. Learn more about them at www.cce.cornell.edu/tioga. For more information or if you want a bin but can't make it on Saturday, call the Master Gardener Growline at 687-4020 ext. 321.
