Moyer Named Volunteer of the Year Arlene Moyer was named Volunteer of the Year last month by The Salvation Army, Empire State Division. She was honored at a special reception held in Cooperstown. Moyer became involved in Salvation efforts about six years ago. She serves on the welfare committee, providing holiday vouchers for food and keeping an eye out for people who might need the Salvations Army's help. She also helps with the Red Kettle campaign by setting up numerous counter kettles around the community According to Lt. Col. Ernest Payton, Salvation Army field representative for the Candor Service Unit, who nominated Arlene for the honor, "Arlene not only served with The Salvation Army, but with numerous other church and community groups. She is undoubtedly the most involved individual in Candor with a deep desire to help her fellow man." Several years ago, Arlene was named Senior Citizen of the Year by Tioga Opportunities; before that, she received the Community Citizenship Award by the Candor Community Service Corp; and in 1999, she was named Lioness of the Year. She organized the Meals on Wheels program 21 years ago and continued up to last year. She volunteered at the Food Pantry for 20 years and assisted with the Dinner Bell Feeding Program for 21 years. She was Lioness President for six years and an active member of the United Methodist Church for 40 years. Arlene is a widow. She has four children and lives in Candor.
