Owego Girl Donates Hair to Locks of Love

Laura Ferguson, 12 of Delphine Street in Owego, donated 11 inches of her long hair to the Locks of Love program. It took Laura about four years to grow her hair long enough for her to have it cut and still have it shoulder length.
Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 18 years and younger who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss. They accept a minimum 10 inch length of donated hair.
In the photo, Laura is holding a  picture of her grandparents, Harry Jr. and Vera Ferguson, both of whom died of cancer. "Vera died when I was three months' pregnant with Laura," explained Brenda Ferguson, Laura's mother. "Before my mother-in-law died, Vera told me I was having a girl. She was right. Laura knows enough about cancer to understand some die and some live. Laura knows donating her hair will help some child, to have hair, who lost it to cancer or some other disease."
Laura is very proud to have donated her hair, and she plans to do so again, once her hair gets long.
Laura, who will be entering the 7th grade this September, is the daughter of Brenda and Thomas Ferguson, and the sister of proud older brothers, all of whom are very proud of what Laura has done.
"Actually, our entire family is proud of her," said Brenda. "This is a worth-while cause."
