Apalachin 5K Run a Great Success

By Susan & Kaitlyn Schultz - Race Directors Running is back in Tioga County! The 1st Apalachin Firemen's Field Days 5K Run was a huge success, bringing in 76 runners on June 11. Being first-time race directors, it was certainly a thrill watching race winner, 17-year old Matt Campbell, of Endicott, come around the final turn towards the finish. Even though the temperatures soared into the 80s at 11:00 am, Campbell ran an outstanding 18 minutes and 9 seconds, setting a course record. An added thrill was seeing Apalachin resident Lynann

Lorenz win it for the women in 19 minutes and 53 seconds. (Complete results are posted online at triplecitiesrunnersclub.org/y2005/apalachin5k.htm.)

Congratulations to the rest of the participants and thank you for your support. With everyone's help, we were able to donate $400 to the Apalachin Fire Department. We are looking forward to making this an annual event. Special thanks go out to:
