Black Bears Seen in Nichols
On June 2, two black bears walked through the Village of Nicholas. About 10:00 am, the two bears were startled by a dog near the Schoolhouse Apartments. the larger of the two bears ran off, bu the smaller bear - which was between 300 and 400 pounds - ran to a large tree and climbed up about 45 feet. The smaller bear remained in the tree until around 2:30 pm when it came down and strolled off into the woods. While the bear was up the tree, the Nichols Fire Department roped off the area to keep spectators at a safe distance.
