All Roads Lead to Owego
New Road Signs Direct Visitors to Greater Owego Area

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Sherwood Boehlert (R-New Hartford)  announced that, at his request, the New York State (NYS) Department of Transportation (DOT) has added five new highway signs directing employees, contractors and other travelers to Owego. Two signs will be added at the interchange of Route 17 and Interstate 81 southbound (Exit 5) and three signs at the interchange of Route 17 West and Interstate 81 northbound.

 "All roads now lead to Owego, home to Lockheed Martin and the site for construction of the new Presidential helicopter," Boehlert said. "The community and company are growing, and more people are visiting Owego every day. In addition, contractors are coming in droves to build a $30 million plant expansion. At my request, the NYS Department of Transportation added five highway signs - and put Owego back on the map. Our hope is to get them there with clearer directions, and I'm confident that these new highway signs will do just that, as well as increase tourism and economic growth throughout the Southern Tier Region."

 On January 28, 2005, the U.S. Navy awarded Team US101, led by Lockheed Martin, a $1.6 billion contract to build the next fleet of Marine One Presidential Executive Transport helicopters. Team US101 is in the process of hiring 750 new employees at the Lockheed Martin Owego facility.
