Celebration Choir to Present
"Joseph Smith and the Restoration"

On Thursday, May 5, the Orem Institute of Religion Latter-Day Celebration choir will present Joseph Smith and the Restoration. The performance will begin at 7:30 pm at the Owego New York Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the Montrose Turnpike, Owego. The show is open to the public and admission is free.

Joseph Smith and the Restoration is an eighty-minute musical drama on the life and mission of the Mormon Prophet Joseph Smith. Through expressive song, media, narration and character portrayal, Joseph Smith and Restoration portrays the events of the Joseph Smith's life including the first vision in Palmyra, New York, the translation of the Book of Mormon in Harmony, Pennsylvania, the building of the Kirtland (Ohio) and Nauvoo (Illinois) Temples, his persecutions, and ultimate martyrdom. This DVD-enhanced drama testifies of the Mormon belief in Joseph Smith's divine mission.

The Latter-Day Celebration choir at the Orem Institute of Religion was organized in 1982 to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ through the power of music, to give students the opportunity to sing in an organized choir setting, to develop a love for good choral literature, and to represent the Institute to the community. What began as a very small group with limited performance opportunity, has grown into a forty-voice auditioned choir that regularly performs throughout the State of Utah and travels to many parts of the United States and Canada. Choir members come from all parts of the United States and are enrolled at the Utah Valley State College in Orem, Utah.

The director of Latter-Day Celebration for the past eighteen years is Douglas Brenchley. Before coming to the Orem Institute, he directed the "Grand Land Singers" in Southern California. He has also directed the Missionary Training Center Choir at the Provo Mission Training Center for the past seventeen years.
