Carol Sweeney (center), Town of Owego Supervisor, and Randy Deal, Town of Owego Assessor, recently accepted the New York State Excellence in Equity Award on behalf of the Town of Owego, Tioga County. Representing the New York State Office of Real Property Services, Doris Houghton (left) presented the award that honors NYS municipalities that are eligible for State Aid for Quality Assessing in 2004. To be eligible, the Town of Owego conducted a reassessment in 2004 and assessed town parcels at full market value. Through this process the Town of Owego officials took the necessary steps to ensure that property owners are fairly and equitably assessed. For this effort the Town received $45,640 in State Aid and earned New York State's Award for Excellence in Equity.
