Annie's Corner I was recently informed that "I don't fit in." I found this statement very peculiar, and not easy to understand; don't fit in to what? I have always thought of human beings like snow flakes, no two are alike. Sure all snow flakes appear white and are cold when they hit the bare skin, but that is where the similarities end. I thought the same was true with humans, we may have a few similarities like two eyes, one nose, and one mouth but mostly no two are alike as we all have experienced, and lived different lives. "I don't fit in," then I started wondering about the other employees, as this phrase was used to terminate my latest job, which I had only held a short time. If the other employees "fit in" does that mean a mold is hidden somewhere and they fit in it? They are all just alike, exactly the same, exactly like the boss, and to what extend? Do they walk and talk alike, dress alike, think alike; are they all the same as the employer's mold dictates they must be? I am my own person with my own thoughts, feelings, ideas; even if I had been given the chance I probably couldn't have fit the mold, but the biggest question of all is why must I? Why not let each individual be themselves? Be the person they are as each and every human I have encountered has always brought something special to any situation, their own uniqueness. Saddest part of all is they never really got to know me, let me get comfortable with their routine and demonstrate what I could have contributed. Like a race only I got stopped shortly after the starting line and never allowed to show how good I could run. Life goes on in Annie's Corner and I will find another job, but may I never, ever fit anyone's mold - I will always remain true to myself as should all of you. Hey, that's a good New Year's Resolution, and an easy one to keep, as Shakespeare says, "to thine own self be true!" Arise, mold breakers, and unite; never letting others tell us how we should be!
