Final Quarters of 2004 
Honor Iowa and Wisconsin

The fourth State Quarter of 2004 honors Iowa. 
 The Iowa quarter features an image based on the painting "Arbor Day" by Grant Wood and shows a group of students and a teacher planting a tree outside a one-room schoolhouse. The design also features the inscription "Foundation of Education" and "1846," which is the year Iowa was admitted to the Union.
 "From the one-room schoolhouse to the virtual classroom, Iowa has a strong foundation in education," said Iowa Governor Vilsack. "The Iowa quarter will be a symbol to the rest of the nation of Iowa's values: that we are committed to our responsibility to educating our young people, that we respect our agricultural heritage and work to protect our environment, that we are dedicated to helping people secure a brighter future and contribute to their communities, and that we are determined to create opportunity for all Iowans."

 The fifth and last State Quarter of 2004 honors Wisconsin.
 The Wisconsin quarter celebrates the state's pride in its agriculture. The image on the quarter features a cow, a wheel of cheese, and an ear of corn. The coin also features the state's motto of "Forward" and the year 1848 which is when Wisconsin became a state.
 According to Wisconsin's governor, Jim Doyle, "Millions of Americans will see the Wisconsin quarter and it will help to promote our state as a dairy and agriculture world leader."
 The State Quarters Program, which started in 1999, is a 10-year celebration of the 50 states. Each year, five states are honored with a unique quarter, Earlier this year, Michigan,  Florida, and Texas state quarters were issued. In 2005, the State Quarters Program will honor California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, and West Virginia.
