 It's November 1979. Howard Baker, 53, announces that he is running for President.

 Former First Lady Mamie Eisenhower, 82, dies in Washington, D.C.

 In Tehran, Iran, the US embassy is seized and Americans are taken hostage.

 In New York, Iranian students handcuff themselves to the Statue of Liberty's crown and hang a banner from the statue which reads "Shah must be tried and punished."

 The United States refuses to return the Shah, who is in this country for medical treatment.

 Senator Edward Kennedy announces that he will seek the Democratic Party's nomination for President.

 California Governor Edmund Brown, 41, announces that he is running for President.

 Al Capp, 70, "Li'l Abner" cartoonist, dies.

 On Veterans' Day, Veterans Administration chief Max Cleland lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solder in Arlington National Cemetery.

 The Presidential candidates begin campaigning in Iowa.

 Ronald Reagan, 68, formally declares his candidacy for President.

 ABC-TV begins broadcasting nightly specials about the Iranian Hostage Crisis at 11:30 pm.

 Hollywood film composer Dimitri Tiomkin, 80, dies in London.

 Britain's Prince Charles turns 31 amid speculation on when the bachelor prince will take a bride.

 Carter prohibits the purchase of Iranian oil, and freezes Iranian assets in the United States.

 Pope John Paul II visits Turkey.

 A DC-10 crashes in Antarctica, killing 257 people.

 The Shah's plans to leave the US for Mexico hit a snag when Mexico refuses to renew his visa which will expire December 9.

 Zeppo Marx, 78, the youngest of the Marx Brothers, dies in California.

 At the Apalachin Elementary School, 5th Graders get a demonstration of the Apple II computer.

 Liza Minnelli, 33, appears at the Broome County Veterans' Memorial Arena.

 The Tioga County United Way exceeds their 1980 goal and raises $205,952.

 The Endicott-Vestal Veterans Day parade is held on Washington Avenue.

 Zippy the Chimp performs at three shows at Fowler's in Binghamton.

 The Tioga County Legislature passes a $16 million budget for 1980.

 Grand openings are held at the two new Kmart stores in Vestal and Endicott.

 Thursday night TV shows include Buck Rogers in the 25th Century; The Waltons; Benson; Hawaii Five-O; Upstairs, Downstairs; and Kate Loves a Mystery.
