Register to Vote During a Presidential Election year there are Registration Days in all towns. You may register at any location within the state directing your registration form to the county Board of Elections in which you live. Tioga County will hold registration days at one location per town within the county on Wednesday, October 6 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, and Saturday, October 9, from 2:00 to 9:00 pm at each town hall as follows: Barton - Municipal Building, 304 State Route 17C, Waverly
The deadline to postmark a newly registered voter form is Friday, October 8, 2004. The Board of Elections must be in receipt of your change of address not later than Wednesday, October 13, 2004, in order to process your application to be eligible to vote at the correct polling location on November 2. To vote in New York State, you must be a U. S. citizen, be 18-years-old by the date of the primary or general election in which you wish to vote, live at your present address for at least 30 days before an election, not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction or claim the right to vote elsewhere. You can obtain registration forms at your county Board of Elections on any business day, at your Town Clerk's office, your local post office, any state agency, or from www.tiogacountyny.com, and follow the prompt "voting" and then the proper form from the Board of Elections page. A registered voter must apply to change their enrollment/political affiliation by completing a registration form. A change of enrollment must be received by this office not later than Friday, October 8, to take effect one week after the General Election. Enrollment changes received after October 8, 2004, will be held in a sealed enrollment box, per New York State Election Law, until one week after the November 2005 election. Absentee Ballot applications are available daily during business hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, or also from the Web site. The Board of Elections will offer extended hour of 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 21 and 28, along with Saturday, October 23 and 30, from 9:00 am to 12:00 Noon to apply for and complete an Absentee Ballot. Students who will be away at college planning to vote must apply annually for an Absentee Ballot. Those with permanent health concerns may apply to be put on a Permanent Absentee Ballot List. This request must include a complete medical reason to qualify under New York State Election Law. The Board of Elections believes an individual's most important right of citizenship is the right to vote. The board remains committed to protecting your right and to promote fair, open and accessible elections. The Board of Elections is a bipartisan office comprised of two appointed Commissioners representing the state's major political parties.
