Masonic Charities Held Banquet

 The 18th annual Masonic Charities banquet of the Chemung - Schuyler - Tioga District was held on September 24 at Donoli's Restaurant in Apalachin. The organization raises funds for education assistance and charitable purposes. At the annual banquet this year was presented three $500 scholastic grants. The three recipients were Miss Jennifer Thomason from Odessa-Montour Central School, Mr. Gregory Walkley from Tioga Central High School, and Mr. Zachary Williams from Odessa-Montour Central School.  These recipients were selected out of 22 applicants in the district and are wished well in their future endeavors. 

 The banquet also acknowledged and congratulated the new district officers: James Weed - District Deputy Grand Master from Newark Valley, James Zearfoss - Grand Sword Bearer from Horseheads, Dr. Robert Moody - Assistant Grand Lecturer from Waverly, and Harold D. Strong - Assistant Grand Lecturer from Owego. 

 These individuals are selected and appointed their offices by the Grand Master of Masons in the State of New York Edwin R. Trosin, who was the guest speaker for the evening. 

 The District also recognized and awarded three Dedicated Service Awards to: Nils D. Card of Big Flats Lodge #378, Clair D. Vergason of Westbrook Lodge #333 in Nichols, and Bruce A. Williams of Ivy Lodge #397 in Elmira. This award is given by Grand Lodge through the recommendation of an individual's lodge based on his activity both in and outside of the lodge environment. 

 Other invited speakers that evening were Miss Katy Northrup, Beloved Queen of Endicott Triangle #43, and Mr. Marcus Chapman, Master Councilor of Roundhill DeMolay in Endicott. They spoke about their organizations and the need for adult leadership. They also made a plea for new members. The evening was well enjoyed by all.
