Gingerbread House Contest The Tioga County Tourism Office is sponsoring a Gingerbread House Contest in an effort to bring folks into the downtown Owego area. Here are the details of the contest: 1. The contest is open to individuals, families, community groups or businesses, and will be judged by the public beginning November 23, 2004, and through December 24, 2004. 2. More than one entry may be submitted. There is no fee to enter the contest. 3. The gingerbread house must be original. All entries must be made entirely of gingerbread. 4. Contestants may embellish their entry with non-edible figures, material, etc., however, these embellishments may not be connected to the house in any way. Everything that appears on, or is connected to the house, must be edible. Creativity is encouraged. 5. The gingerbread house submitted may take any shape or form, however, construction is limited to a 2' x 3' area for display and must be on its own board or base which is larger than the house. 6. All submissions are due to the Tioga County Tourism Office, Chamber of Commerce building, 188 Front Street, Owego by 5:00 pm on Friday, November 19, 2004. 7. Gingerbread houses will be on display at participating downtown businesses for the public's votes. A list of participating businesses and their gingerbread houses will be available on November 23. The public can vote any time at participating businesses through December 24. 8. The top three prizes will be awarded the last week of December for the best looking houses. Houses will be judged based on appearance, creativity and use of decorations. The first place prize is a large gift basket of goods from local merchants. Second and third place prizes are gift certificates to local restaurants. 9. Those voting for the winning gingerbread house will also be eligible for a prize from a random drawing of winning votes. 10. Be creative, be innovative, be imaginative.
