Education Expert to Speak in Owego

Area residents with concerns about education are invited to hear nationally-known author and researcher Beverly Eakman on Thursday, October 21, at 7 pm in the Hubbard Auditorium at the Tioga County Office Building, 56 Main Street in Owego.

This one-hour presentation is sponsored by Sandy Williams, Don Castellucci, Jr., and area residents who have been voicing concerns about the International Baccalaureate Program and other changes in area education policies and practices. There is no charge, of course, but donations are welcomed to help underwrite the costs of this presentation.

Ms. Eakman is co-founder of the National Education Consortium, a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C., that specializes in education law.  She has had a long career as a researcher, technical writer, and speech writer for government officials. She has written several books on education,
including Cloning of the American Mind, and Educating for the New World Order, which explain intertwined issues in education.

Ms. Eakman has also conducted numerous day-long seminars on education issues across the country.

Her presentation here will touch on a broad view of the status of education
today, including the IBO concerns.  This is a rare opportunity for learning
answers to the question many of you are asking: "What has gone wrong with
the education system?"

If you need further information on this event, please contact Donald Castellucci at 687-0965.
