Owego's Historic African Church Honored

 Do Not Pass Me By is a weekend event honoring Owego's Historic African Methodist  Episcopal Church.   On Saturday, October 16, there will be a  dedication  and unveiling of a historic marker at 2:00 pm at 110 Fox Street, Owego, site of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

  On Sunday, October 17,  at  2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Owego located at 228 Main Street. There will be a presentation of history, in story and sacred music of the early Black Church. A free will offering  to benefit the John Honey Jones African-American Awareness Committee will be accepted. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome to attend. 

 The African Methodist Episcopal Church was established in 1842 and was commonly known as the Bethel Church. The church lasted for more than 100 years.
