A Championship Team

 On  August 14 at NYSEG Stadium, Owego (VFW) played Johnson City (HSBC) for the 15-16 year old Southern Tier Teener League (STTL) National League Championship. 

 VFW advanced to the championship by defeating Johnson City (Cycle Sport Shop) 10-2 and Ithaca 2-1 in an eight inning classic.  

 In the championship game, HSBC took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd then scoring two more in the 3rd off starter Matt Markowsky. Mark Eddinger came in for relief in the 4th and 5th innings and picking up the win. 

 In the bottom of the 4th VFW would rally, Adam Farabaugh and Davey Haskins hit back-to-back singles, then Marc Baker singled in Farabaugh for VFW's first run.  Haskins scored on a throw trying to get Baker at second base as Cody Thorpe singled in Baker for the tie. 

 Owego scored five more runs in the 5th  when Vince Skovira lead off with a single, Farabaugh, Haskins and Markowsky each picking up a RBI.  Shane Hildenbrandt hit a 2 out bases loaded single for two more runs  making it 8-3.

 VFW came up with one more run in the 6th as Eddinger lead off with a single, stole 2nd, move to 3rd on Haskins groundout to second, then scored on Baker's single to left.  

 HSBC scored two runs in the top of the 7th making the final score 9-5.
 VFW finished the season with a 15-2 record.
