Hartjen Running for Co. Legislature

Lee C. Hartjen of Apalachin has announced that he will be seeking the District 3 Tioga County Legislative seat presently held by incumbent Fran Leavenworth.
Hartjen is a graduate of the Syracuse University School of Law and Marywood College, as well as a former Broome County Senior Assistant County Attorney. He presently has his own private law practice with law offices in Apalachin and Johnson city.

In announcing his candidacy, Hartjen stated he has serious concerns with a number of county policies and decisions, among them the $1 million taxpayer investment that the county has made in the former proposed Route 434 county office building site in the Town of Owego.

As part of his platform, Hartjen intends to work hard to implement more cost effective and creative ways for the county to deliver Medicaid, Medicare, and other mandated services thereby reducing the burden on the taxpayer and pledges to help open up Tioga County government by reaching out to the citizens of Apalachin and making county government more user friendly. He believes local government, in particular, should be accountable only to the people, and not by partisan politics.

Hartjen and his wife, Ann, a high school science teacher, have five children. During his career, he has been a member of the SOS Shelter Advisory Board, New Hope Center Advisory Board, NYS Division for Youth Advisory Board, NYS Jaycees State Executive Board and a member of the Johnson City Lions Club, as well as a member of the International Rhett Syndrome Association and the Defense Research Institute.
