Canoe & Kayak Regatta Planned

  The Carantouan Greenway and Kevin Millar of the Tioga County Water Trail Partnership are coordinating an August 7th Canoe & Kayak Regatta on the Susquehanna River as part of the Valley Heritage Festival. The regatta will start at the Nichols Village Boat Launch, east of the Village, and end at Riverfront Park in Sayre. Registration will take place at 9:00am at Nichols, launch at 9:30 and arrival at Riverfront Park at about 1:00pm. For those interested, a bag lunch will be provided at Riverfront Park for a small fee. All participants must register for the regatta and wear a floatation device.   Also at Riverfront Park there will be two presentations given by Gil Hirschel the environmental outreach coordinator for the Susquehanna River Basin Commission(SRBC). The presentations will be open to regatta participants and the general public, and are appropriate for all ages. 
 1:00pm – "The History and Geography of the Susquehanna River Basin"
 2:00pm – "The Riverman" presenting, "Log rafting down the river in the  mid 1800's". 

 The Carantouan Greenway is a non-profit Land Trust organization that 
is working through educational programs, outings, and cleanup activities to connect communities to their natural environment and resources.

 The Tioga County Water Trail Partnership consists of organizations that support the idea of a water trail on the Susquehanna River in Tioga County. The Partnership aims to improve access to and to promote recreational opportunities on the Susquehanna and its tributaries, in hopes of enhancing environmental  stewardship. Individuals or organizations who are interested in joining the Partnership should contact Millar.
