Walk Through Time on Hiawatha Island Waterman Center brings you a unique living history weekend on Hiawatha Island. This one-of-a-kind event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 10 and 11, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Your trip back in time begins with a boat ride across the historic Susquehanna River on Waterman Center's pontoon boat, the Susquehanna Shuttle. Once on Hiawatha Island, stroll along the trails and experience life as it was during earlier times. Begin with a Native American/Primitive Area encampment, See wigwams under construction using native materials. As you continue along, talk to a Post Revolutionary War woman and hear about her everyday life. There will be live demonstrations along the trails of blacksmithing, basket making, natural hide tanning and much more. Enjoy the nature trails and check out the antique farm equipment and barn and farmhouse foundations from the original Hiawatha Island farm site. Converse with Emma Sedore, local historian, about the fascinating history of Hiawatha Island. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Catch the boat at the Waterman Center Boat Dock on Marshland Road in Apalachin. It is recommended that you arrive by 2:30 in order to have enough time to visit the island.
