Mildred & Raymond Thornton
Chosen Seniors of the Year

Mildred and Raymond Thornton of Spencer have been chose the "2004 Seniors of the Year for Tioga County" by the Aging Advisory Council of Tioga Opportunities, Inc., Department of Aging.

The Thorntons are life-long residents of Spencer, and were chosen as "Senior Citizens of the Year" because they exemplify community service with their work with the food pantry, senior citizens club, Lions Club, and willingness to help others in need. Millie Thornton is retired from the Post Office, and Ray is a retired electrician. The couple has two children, Crystal Hoey and Kevin Thornton, and three grandchildren, Eric Hoey, Caitlin Hoey, and Julian Thornton.

The Thorntons will be honored at a special luncheon at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, May 18, at the Countryside Community Center, 9 Sheldon Guile Boulevard in Owego.

The agency will also be honoring centenarians living in Tioga County. At present, they are aware of eleven residents who are more than 100-years-old or who will celebrate their 100th birthday in 2004.
