Groundbreaking at Lockheed Martin-Owego for New US101 Building

On March 18, NYS Governor George Pataki helped Lockheed Martin break ground for a new presidential helicopter facility at their site on Route 17C in Owego. Lockheed Martin leads Team US101 which is hoping to win the contract to provide the President of the United States with a new fleet of helicopters.
Lockheed is investing its own funds to begin construction activities now before the contract is awarded in order to maintain the delivery schedule set by the customer. The new 176,000-square-foot facility (see computer-generated image below) will feature offices, labs, parts storage, aircraft maintenance facilities, and aircraft hangars.
Less than a week after the groundbreaking, the government announced that it would delay awarding the contract until November. The contract was to have been awarded next month.
