Hinchey Addresses US101 Suppliers Washington - U.S. Representative Maurice Hinchey (NY-22) last month was the featured speaker at a Washington dinner for Lockheed Martin's suppliers and subcontractors on the US 101 presidential helicopter project. Hinchey was introduced by Lockheed Martin Systems Integration President Frank Meyer, who described Hinchey as Lockheed's number one supporter on whom they have relied for many years. Hinchey made the following remarks: "I want to thank Frank Meyer and Steve Ramsey from Lockheed Martin Systems Integration for inviting me to join you this evening. I have been a strong supporter of the US101 proposal for some time now, and am pleased to be associated with such a fine group of people. "As you saw first hand during your conference, the Lockheed Martin US101 Team is committed to bringing a world-class helicopter into the U.S. This program will create and retain hundreds of good jobs in 41 states and in our communities at home in New York. You -- the supplier team -- are the best of the best, and are an integral part of this effort. "The Lockheed Martin US101 is a combat-proven helicopter with nearly 50,000 flight hours. It was designed by two of our closest allies -- England and Italy -- and is a mainstay of their militaries. Its modern, three-engine design provides more flexibility, greater safety, and improved performance regardless of mission requirements. The same basic design can be used for both executive transport and for combat search and rescue. "Most immediately, the Marine One helicopter fleet is at the end of its service life and must be replaced as soon as possible. It is vitally important that the President be transported in a safe, secure, state-of-the-art helicopter built to military specifications. The Lockheed Martin US101 fits the bill, and is ready to go now. "Thanks to your hard work, dedication, and efforts, Team US101 submitted its bid to the U.S. Navy for the presidential transport helicopter in February 2004. We expect a contract decision in May 2004. If the Navy wants the best helicopter money can buy, they will select the US101."
