Ribbon Cutting at Chemung Canal Trust

The Tioga County Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting on Friday, February 27, at Chemung Canal Trust, 203 Main Street, in Owego, to acknowledge the completion of renovations of the building.

In 1994, Chemung Canal Trust Company bought the Owego National Bank, a beautiful historic building with 18-foot columns and marble detailing. The building was built in 1913 for the Owego National Bank. Over the years, the banking business changed and so did the needs of the building. Chemung Canal Trust recognized the need for a drive-up window. The challenge was to design and construct a new drive-up canopy and to preserve the historic architecture that has made the building an historic cornerstone in the Village of Owego. The cornice profiles and the arch replicate details of the original building. The building was restored to much of its original state.
