"Windows in Time" Phase 2 Completed

The second phase of the "Windows in Time" Mural Project has been completed. An unveiling of this historic mural was held on January 29. The participating artists are Nancy Ryan, Ruth Harasta and Eda Brent.

The Mural Project was supported by a Decentralization Grant from the Arts of the Southern Finger Lakes and New York State Council on the Arts.  The pilot project was successfully completed in 2002 which created eight external window murals that were placed in the boarded-up windows of the Parkview Restaurant.  Local artists created realistic and historic scenes of people and activities as might be seen in the windows in the late 1800's and early 1900's time frame.

This second phase mural is historic in nature and majestically measures 12x18 feet in diameter and will be placed on a downtown Owego building, making a beautifully attractive alternative to an otherwise plainly sided building.

The mural features working scenes of eight prominent and historic figures that made a significant contribution to the foundation of Owego.  Many long hours of study and imaginary skill were spent in creating this mural.

There is a trend all across the country to attract visitors by  creating beautiful murals on the sides of buildings throughout an entire community.  Most are on old buildings and many are unbelievably realistic.   Future hopes are to continue that trend in Tioga County.
