Boston Tea Party, Tioga County Style: Bob
Bell (left), a farmer from Barton, Tim Brown (center), of TJ's Market in
Barton, and Clark Hepworth (right) of Owego, get ready to throw their 2004
county tax bills into the Susquehanna River at high Noon on Saturday, January
17. The men are protesting the 18.8% tax increase by refusing to pay the
tax. IN a press release issued later that day, Tioga County Legislature
Chairman Martin L. Borko said, "Real property tax increases of this type
are devastating to our farming community... We agree with Bob Bell
. . . we must act now and we must act together to reduce this burden."
