Apalachin Fire Department
by Anthony R. Quaranta
Dear Community Members, I would like to wish a Happy New Year and Happy Valentine's Day to all. At the time of this writing, we have already had 52 fire and EMS calls so far this year. A new year has come and we are off and running. To go along with this busy month, we have had a few changes in our officer structure. Below is the list of officers for the 2004 calendar year. Some are brand new, some are new to their position, and some have held these positions before, but all are exceptional and I look forward to working with each of them and having an excellent year. The Line Officers are: Chief 171 - Anthony Quaranta; Assistant Chief 172 - Michael Roden; Assistant Chief 173- Alfred Warner; Assistant Chief 174 - Jarvis Henderson; Squad Captain - Joseph Betkavsky; Captain of Station #1 - William Walker; Captain of Station #2 - Jeffrey Garrett; Captain of Station #3 - James Kelly; Captain of the Fire Police - Kenneth Brinkman; Lieutenant of Station #1 - Thomas Bidwell; Lieutenant of Station #2 - Janet Warner; Lieutenant of Station #3 - Mark Knaul; Lieutenant of Fire Police - David Springer. These officers, along with the general members are the ones that put in the extra hours to emulate the true meaning of volunteerism. In this new year we will get our new thermal imager up and running, our new brush truck on the road, continue our training, as well as taking care of the day to day business for the A.F.D. On the business side of the department, we have our table officers. They are: President - Kenneth Brinkman; Vice President - Janet Warner; Treasurer - Anthony Quaranta; Assistant Treasurer - Jarvis Henderson; Secretary - Alicia Loso; and Chaplain - James Kelly. As you can see, the names on both lists are almost the same. Most of these community servants do all of this while working full time jobs and taking care of their families. It is a tremendous passion that they have for serving our community that they do this. Besides these officers, we have 50 other active members who are willing to give of their time to serve others by being a volunteer firefighter, emergency squad member and/or a fire police. If you feel you have the passion to serve our community, stop by fire station #1 on Pennsylvania Avenue on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. One of our members will be willing to answer any question you may have about becoming involved with the Fire Department. I look forward to seeing you. Sincerely,
