Apalachin Lions Corner
by President Don Castellucci, Jr.

• Poster Contest Winners
Britiny Wainwright, a student from Owego-Apalachin Middle School, and Katy Jeremko, a student from Vestal Middle School, received $50 Savings Bonds as local winners in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest for 2003-04.

Britiny's poster won at the district and state level, and will compete in the international competition in Chicago.  This is the first time a poster from our district (20-E2) has been selected.

• Christmas Basket Program
Our Christmas basket program was a great success. Thanks to our community and businesses, we helped  50 families, including 39 children and 17 seniors. We collected four tons of food, and the Apalachin Lions Club expended $4,000 on the program. The donations of toys, food, and other services make this program possible. Thank you!

• Project Funding
How do we fund these projects? Your generosity. The annual broom sale, lottery calendar sales, and the Sight Seal drive are all ways we raise money to put back into the community. Our Sight Seal drive was another success. We are still receiving donations and are still accepting calendar sales. If you know a Lion ask them for details. If you would like to become a Lions member contact Don Castellucci, 687-0965, Membership Chairman Vince Hawley, 625-2365, or any other Lions member.

On behalf of the Apalachin Lions Club, I wish you a Happy and Healthy New Year!
