Giuffrida Makes Eagle Scout
Anthony Giuffrida
Anthony Giuffrida, 17, of Boy Scout Troop 208, earned the rank of Eagle Scout in October. Anthony's Eagle Scout Project was titled "The Geologic History of the Southern Tier as Told by the Susquehanna River at Hiawatha Island."
He dug out a rise on Hiawatha Island, and then recreated the glacial rock and till layers in a wooden diorama with an informational sign. This diorama is now a stop on the Hiawatha Island tour run by the Waterman Conservation Center. His advisors on this project were Mr. Scott MacDonald, Executive Director of the Waterman Conservation Center in Apalachin, and geologist Professor Bruce Oldfield, Broome Community College Engineering Science/Physics/Physical Science Department. Anthony is a senior at Union-Endicott High School and is the son of Sylvester and Sally Guiffrida of Endicott.
