Annie's Corner
Probably got your attention with my title, but this is not about physical or sexual abuse. Ever work for someone, learn to respect and listen to him or her, work well with him or her and accomplish a lot; then this individual receives a promotion and totally changes. It's strange but guess the power goes to their head. What was once a hard-working employee suddenly becomes an arrogant and demanding boss. While on this new power trip they start making crazy decisions, decisions that no one understands. Decisions that don't make any sense either economically or personnel wise, and he takes advice from no one. Ever been pulled from a job you are good at? A position where you are the most experienced and best trained, where you are best suited and doing an exemplary job then the power trip arrives and puts someone else in your spot just cause he or she can. It's like the body builder flexing his muscles when no one is watching. You are allowed to train your replacements while you are trying to learn your new job. (Gee, thanks!) While training these new people you wonder how these people were picked when they don't even have the basic know how to do the job, and several have been hired to do what you did alone. Cost efficient, not in most books. When power goes to the head, it seems to block senses and work starts to get very confusing for those you are moving around. Employees are not like a chess game and we are not all pawns for the new boss to move and toss as he sees fit. Big corporations call these moves, "shake ups" and many times they end up costing more then they are worth so what is the purpose, can someone tell me that? A promotion sounds great, but if the power trip is going to turn my brain to silly putty as I have witnessed from others maybe I don't want a promotion. Well if it does happen I will try to remember the people who got me there and are already doing a good job.
