From the Sheriff's Office
DARE Program Discontinued

Tioga County Sheriff Roger E. Besser regrets to announce that the Tioga County Sheriff's Office DARE Program will be discontinued. This decision was reluctantly made. Our county is facing a severe financial crisis, which has and will continue to cause budget reductions, thereby forcing personnel limitations and other austere measures.

Having initiated the DARE Program in Tioga County nearly twelve years ago, Sheriff Besser strongly believes that the lessons taught through DARE will serve our children in making good life decisions. He also believes that having a law enforcement officer in our schools serves as an invaluable communication link with our youth. Sheriff Besser is very proud of the way this program was operated, and believes that it has had a positive impact on our communities.

It is Sheriff Besser's sincere hope that, as the current fiscal situation evolves in a more positive direction, this valuable program can be reconsidered..
